Hangman Tips & Strategies
- Guess vowels first. Vowels are an excellent starting point since there are only five of them, allowing you to fill in blanks quickly. Sometimes, they even lead you directly to the answer. For instance, if you guess “A” and see “_A_A_A,” you might immediately figure out the word is “BANANA.”
- Use the “Etaoin Shrdlu” approach. This method highlights the most frequently used letters in English, with “E” being the most common, followed by “T.” Once you’ve tried vowels, test a few letters from this list to see if they fit.
- Break down phrases into individual words. When solving phrases, focus on each word separately rather than the entire phrase. Guessing one word often leads to figuring out the others. Use the tip provided at the top of the screen for additional hints.
- Remember tricky letters like J and Z. These letters are rare and can trip players up. Avoid starting with them, but keep them in mind as the puzzle progresses.
Knowing the hardest and most common words in Hangman can help you refine your strategy even further.
What are the hardest Hangman words? “Jazz” is one of the toughest Hangman words to guess. It includes “J” and “Z,” which are rarely used letters, and its short length—just three letters—makes it even trickier.
Other challenging options are words that don’t include common vowels like A, E, I, O, or U. Examples include “psych” and “synth,” which are hard to guess due to their lack of vowels and uncommon letter combinations.
